In addition to the hundreds of bicentennial programs and events during the commemoration period, the Maryland War of 1812 Commission and Star-Spangled 200, Inc. will be sponsoring a dozen signature events. Five of the events are listed below.

Star-Spangled Sailabration Baltimore, Maryland June 13–19, 2012
An international parade of ships will sail into Baltimore’s Inner Harbor in June 2012 to launch the U.S. Bicentennial commemoration of the War of 1812. The U.S. Navy/OpSail event will feature British, Canadian and other navies plus tall ships from around the world during a week-long event to mark the 200th anniversary of the U.S. declaration of war against Great Britain.

The Annapolis Conference U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland June 2013
To recognize and celebrate two centuries of peace between the U.S., Great Britain and Canada following the War of 1812, the U.S. Naval Academy will be home to an international academic conference including programs for the general public. An exhibit, featuring the iconic Don’t Give Up the Ship flag, the British Royal standard taken from Fort York (Toronto) and other War of 1812 symbols from Great Britain, Canada and the United States will be displayed.

Battle of St. Leonard Creek Reenactment Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum, St. Leonard, Maryland June 21-22, 2014
Plans are underway for a major commemoration of the Battle(s) of St. Leonard Creek. In June 1814, the U.S. Chesapeake Flotilla took on British forces in the Patuxent River, becoming Maryland’s largest naval engagement. This living history event will feature historic craft demonstrations and hands-on educational activities.

Star-Spangled Spectacular 2014 Baltimore, Maryland Sept. 6–14, 2014
A star-spangled commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Baltimore and the Star-Spangled Banner, featuring Francis Scott Key’s immortal manuscript, will take place in Baltimore. Festivities kick off on September 6, 2014, with the annual Defenders’ Day event at North Point. A week-long celebration featuring re-enactments, fireworks, parades, and a maritime festival will conclude with a televised event at Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine. |

2011 Pride Sail East Coast and Great Lake region May- Nov. 2011
The Pride of Baltimore II will be embarking on a goodwill voyage starting Memorial Day weekend 2011 to promote the upcoming War of 1812 bicentennial commemoration. The voyage will take the Pride to 25 port cities in the U.S. and Canada. |
