NORTH POINT STAR-SPANGLED 200 CONFERENCE

Highlights from the day
The North Point State Park Visitor Center hosted the morning presentations. Baltimore County Executive Jim Smith gave opening remarks and introduced the Baltimore County War of 1812 Bicentennial Advisory Committee. Vince Vaise, Chief of Interpretation at Fort McHenry, discussed the Battle of North Point while Ed Seufert, a Royal Marines re-enactor, offered the British perspective of the battle. Ross Kimmel, historian for the Maryland Park Service, discussed resources and projects related to North Point War of 1812.
The tour included stops at the following sites:
- Fort Howard (landing site of the British Army);
- Todd’s Inheritance (house used as an American signal station and burned by the British);
- Aquila Randall Monument (1817 monument near the battlefield);
- Battle Acre (monument marking line of defense at Battle of North Point);
- North Point Battlefield (nine acres of the battlefield site); and
- Methodist Meeting House (location of a British encampment).
