The event was sponsored by the Cecil County Tourism, Harford County Office of Tourism, and Lower Susquehanna Heritage Greenway.
Highlights from the day
The Havre de Grace Maritime Museum hosted the morning presentations where attendees learned about the War of 1812 and the 1813 British raids in the region from noted Maryland War of 1812 author Christopher George and Historian Michael Dixon.
The tour included stops at the following sites:
- Concord Point Lighthouse (near the location where John O'Neill courageously fought the British when they attacked Havre de Grace in May 1813);
- Rodger’s Tavern (a historic structure once owned by Commodore John Rodgers);
- Principio Furnace (a manufacturer of cannons and ordinance that was burned by the British); and
- Elk Landing (the site of Fort Hollingsworth, the upper defensive earthwork on the Elk River).
